Early Years Department
At St. Michael’s RC Primary School, we provide an excellent start for our youngest children. We pride ourselves in ensuring that our Early Year’s curriculum focuses on the skills and learning that is crucial for early childhood development and, following the child’s interests and fascinations, we ensure all of our Early Year’s children access a high quality provision.
We aim to provide:
*The best for every child. Every child deserves to have an equal chance of success.
*High-quality care. The child's experience must always be central to the thinking of every practitioner.
*A broad and balanced, ambitious, play-based curriculum using high quality resources that promote open ended learning which is driven by the children's interests and focuses on the development of new knowledge and skills.
*A mixture of different approaches to help children learn, including child-initiated play, guided learning and direct teaching in a high-quality, enabling environment which is successfully adapted to meet the needs of all our children.
*Effective and accurate assessment by practitioners who understand child development and are skilled in enhancing and securing new learning.
*A strong and respectful partnership informing parents about their child's development and progress and supporting ways to help children at home.
